Woman Tosses Coffee at Michigan McDonald’s Manager in Viral Outburst

A 49-year-old woman who was caught on video throwing coffee at a Michigan McDonald’s manager in November has entered her guilty plea to assault and battery.

Casharra T. Brown appeared before Saginaw County District Judge Elian E.H. Fichtner and pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge last week, with penalties potentially including up to 93 days in jail and a $500 fine.

Video footage from November 4 shows Brown, who had been waiting over an hour at the McDonald’s located at 3700 Dixie Highway in Buena Vista Township, refusing a refund for two sandwiches after placing an online order. The manager attempted to de-escalate by offering coffee and explaining that Brown had been there longer than she claimed.

After the manager told Brown to have a great day and walked away from the counter, Brown removed the lid from the coffee cup, threw the contents at the manager, and yelled, “Fk you, bitch! Catch that hot-ass coffee!” as she exited the restaurant. The manager was heard screaming after the hot coffee struck her body.

Brown appeared before Saginaw County District Judge M. Randall Jurrens for arraignment more than a week later and was released on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond. Police initially requested a felonious assault charge but later indicated that the restaurant manager suffered only minor burns due to wearing sufficient layers.

Judge Fichtner referred Brown to the Probation Department for an interview to determine her sentence, warning she would not be rescheduled if she missed it. Brown’s defense attorney had previously sought to amend her bond to allow travel to Georgia after the incident, but Brown remained in Saginaw due to a bond condition prohibiting her from leaving Michigan—a restriction that caused her to miss a court date over a Tennessee traffic infraction.

The judge recently modified Brown’s bond to permit out-of-state travel while reminding her she must return to Michigan for sentencing or face an arrest warrant. Brown confirmed she would attend her hearing, which is pending.
