A video of an altercation between Arizona State University senior Eryn Bonner and Tempe police officers has gone viral. Local authorities report that Bonner allegedly punched a police officer and interfered in an arrest on Mill Avenue in Tempe last July — after which officers used force against her.
In Tempe City Court, Bonner faces two misdemeanor charges: disorderly conduct under state law and interference with police under city code.
According to video evidence reviewed by the city, Bonner punched the officer multiple times. The footage shows the officer sitting over Bonner prior to striking her.
The Tempe Officers Association has released a statement supporting the charging decision and standing by officers’ actions.
