Florida 12-Year-Old Arrested for Online Manifesto Threatening Mass Shooting at Middle School

A 12-year-old Florida girl was arrested after she posted an online manifesto detailing a plan to carry out a mass shooting at Southwestern Middle School in DeLand, Florida, due to bullying, authorities said.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office stated it received word overnight Monday about the manifesto, which outlined specific times and locations for the attack. The student initially denied involvement but later admitted to creating the plan and posting it online with detectives.

Investigators found the manifesto identified a teacher who “gave me an F on my test” and named students. When officials spoke with that teacher, she checked her grades and confirmed the suspect was one of her students with an F. The plan also included a boy from the student’s math class who admitted to being involved in the plot.

The girl was arrested around 1:30 a.m. Monday at the Volusia Family Resource Center after authorities traced the online post to DeLand and identified her as a student at Southwestern Middle School, which is located about 45 minutes north of Orlando.
