Swalwell Faces Mortgage Fraud Allegations as Trump Administration Targets Democrats

California Rep. Eric Swalwell is under investigation for alleged mortgage fraud related to his residence in Washington, D.C., as part of a broader effort by the Trump administration targeting Democrats. The California Democrat is one of four political adversaries investigated, including Democratic Sen. Adam Schiff, Federal Reserve Gov. Lisa Cook, and New York Attorney General Letitia James. According to the Department of Justice, Swalwell’s residence was declared as his primary home, leading to several million dollars in loans and refinancing. Pulte alleged that Swalwell may have made inaccurate statements in loan documents, prompting an investigation into potential mortgage fraud, tax fraud, insurance fraud, and related crimes. Swalwell claims the referral was politically motivated, stating he is surprised it took so long for the administration to target him. He asserts his refusal to live in fear and continues to speak out against the president, advocating for Californians. “Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it,” he said, urging the president to do better.
