ISIS-Linked Terror Plot Thwarted in Michigan: FBI Unveils Details of Alleged Attack Plan

The U.S. Department of Justice revealed a criminal complaint detailing an alleged ISIS-related terror plot uncovered in Michigan, where federal authorities arrested three suspects following a coordinated investigation. The operation, led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, prevented what officials described as a planned attack targeting civilians during Halloween weekend.

According to the unsealed complaint, prosecutors allege that Mohmed Ali and Majed Mahmoud, along with three other co-conspirators, purchased firearms, including an AR-15 rifle and a shotgun, and practiced shooting drills. Law enforcement recovered over 1,600 rounds of ammunition, multiple AR-15-style rifles, shotguns, handguns, and tactical gear during searches of their residences. The plot allegedly targeted the Ferndale suburb of Detroit, an area known for its LGBTQ+ community venues.

The investigation began after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement official discovered terror-related content on a phone belonging to one of the suspects following their return from abroad. Prosecutors cited messages between co-conspirators referencing other attacks they aimed to replicate. One suspect allegedly sought to travel to Syria to join ISIS and encouraged others to follow.

FBI Director Kash Patel stated the bureau had thwarted a “major terror attack” through its actions. Two of five individuals questioned by law enforcement were released, while the remaining three faced charges.

Amir Makled, an attorney for one suspect, disputed the allegations, calling the situation “hysteria and fearmongering.” He claimed the men were merely “young gamers” involved in online forums and denied any illegal activity.

The complaint emphasized the suspects’ alleged intent to carry out violence on American soil, with prosecutors highlighting their access to weapons and tactical planning. No further details about potential victims or specific targets were disclosed.
