Jack Dorsey Revives Vine: A Six-Second Video App Returns

Jack Dorsey is bringing back one of the internet’s most beloved applications, rekindling its nostalgic appeal with a six-second format. The former Twitter co-founder and CEO, who resigned from leading the platform in 2021, has partnered with Evan Henshaw-Plath, known as Rabble, to revive Vine—a video app that once dominated short-form comedy clips. The new project, called diVine, aims to restore 10,000 archived Vine posts, leveraging a six-second time limit while rejecting AI-generated videos through special filters.

Dorsey’s nonprofit, Other Stuff, focuses on creating a platform where users can control their algorithms or choose who they follow, ensuring real, user-generated content. The app is currently in beta stage, available only to existing Nostr users, and will allow former Vine users to claim their old videos if they prove access to connected social media accounts.

The revival comes as X owner Elon Musk announced efforts to restore Vine’s archive, though Dorsey appears to have already beaten him to the punch. The project highlights a return to simpler internet times, where content feeds consisted of accounts users followed, with real video recordings.
