MIKE LINDELL, founder and CEO of MyPillow, has reached a confidential settlement with Liberty Vote (formerly Dominion Voting Systems) in a defamation lawsuit stemming from allegations about the 2020 U.S. election. The agreement, finalized five years after the suit was filed, resolves claims that Lindell defamed Dominion by seeking $1.3 billion in damages.
The settlement includes the “with prejudice” clause to prevent future lawsuits and comes as Lindell runs for governor of Minnesota. Recent polling shows he is the leading Republican candidate in the race.
In a recent statement, Lindell described the resolution as a “big relief,” adding: “I can now run for governor, win governor, and not have to have in the back of my mind a worry about a $1.3 billion lawsuit.”
Previously, Lindell was ordered to pay $2.3 million to a Dominion employee and $780,000 to DHL in January 2025 for defamation claims. A federal judge also ruled that he defamed the Smartmatic voting machine company, though the case has not yet reached the “actual malice” standard required for damages.
The lawsuit began in 2021 when Dominion filed a defamation claim against Lindell after he made false statements about election fraud. Liberty Vote stated only that “the parties have agreed to a confidential settlement.”
Lindell is one of three top Republican primary candidates vying for the party’s endorsement, with President Donald Trump reportedly stating that Lindell “deserves” to be governor. Whoever wins the Republican primary on August 11 will face Sen. Amy Klobuchar in the general election.
