DALLAS — Josh Howerton, pastor of Lakepointe Church, announced Thursday that his congregation will launch a two-year initiative aimed at repairing fractured families and communities across Texas and globally.
The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, home to nearly 8.5 million residents, faces significant societal challenges including divorce, single parenthood, drug addiction, poverty, and loneliness, despite being the largest population center in one of the nation’s most conservative states.
Inspired by Isaiah 58:12 — “they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, the repairer of the breach, the restorer of paths to dwell in” — the initiative includes five goals.
The program will translate the New Testament into regional languages for 1.5 million people who have never had access to Scripture in their native language, with a focus on Northern India where many have migrated to North Texas. It also aims to reach 1.2 million incarcerated individuals through a partnership with God Behind Bars Ministry.
Lakepointe Church will launch a sermon series and 21 Days of Prayer beginning October 17, culminating in Commitment Weekend on November 14-15.
“North Texas is experiencing explosive growth, and that fast growth gives us an opportunity to make a difference in neighborhoods, schools, and families,” said Tim Smith, senior executive pastor at Lakepointe Church.
