A surveillance video recorded on January 19 at midnight captured a break-in attempt at an affluent home in Jamaica Estates, Queens. The clip shows intruders attempting to steal a luxury car key fob from the residence.
The homeowner, armed with a concealed carry permit, confronted the burglars after one entered through a window using a phone flashlight. “I’m like, ‘I have a gun; don’t move!'” he said. After pulling the trigger, the homeowner reported that his firearm jammed — and did not fire. “By whatever divine intervention, the gun doesn’t shoot,” he added.
The intruders fled through the window where they had entered, followed by their accomplices. The homeowner noted both of his vehicles were in the driveway and his lights illuminated as they approached the front gate. “They knew somebody was home,” he said. “But they didn’t seem to care.” He also revealed his wife and children were present during the incident, targeting a key fob for his luxury Bentley vehicle.
Police report three burglaries have occurred in the area, with two resulting in successful thefts of a Porsche and a Range Rover. The homeowner expressed concern about the rising crime rate, particularly for Jewish residents who might be on vacation for Yeshiva. “If they want to come back, let them,” he said. “This time the gun won’t be jammed. Hopefully, it won’t get there. But I don’t feel like I have a target on my back — everybody here is a target.”
Police are actively seeking the three suspects involved.
