Halle Berry Slams Gavin Newsom’s Menopause Stance

In a direct and pointed statement, Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry has expressed strong opposition to California Governor Gavin Newsom potentially seeking the presidency in 2024. Speaking at the New York Times’ DealBook Summit on Tuesday, Berry voiced her concerns specifically regarding the governor’s handling of menopause health care legislation.

“Back in my great state of California, my very own governor, Gavin Newsom,” Berry stated during a presentation about advocating for women’s midlife wellness. “has vetoed our menopause bill, not one, but two years in a row.”

The governor previously argued that the bill would limit necessary health care options and restrict the ability of plans to manage costs effectively.

But Berry appeared unfazed by this reasoning regarding potential presidential ambitions when she added, “And with the way he’s overlooked women… half the population,” the star declared. “By devaluing us in midlife, he probably should not be our next president either.”

Berry went on to say that Newsom is correctly identified as someone who would stand against her if elected: “He [Gavin Newsom] has no interest whatsoever for me being president… because he’s not going to champion this cause. The Menopause Care Equity Act simply cannot move forward with him in the governor’s office.”

The star took issue with recent news that the California Governor, who is a vocal advocate against age discrimination and supports LGBTQ+ rights including same-sex marriage, vetoed the bill which would have expanded health care coverage for menopausal women. She stated Newsom’s actions “led to my rejection of any presidential hopes he might have.”
