U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota ignited a wave of criticism when she posted data regarding electricity costs on social media, specifically highlighting an 11% surge under President Donald Trump.
The post presented a graph showing large increases in power costs since 2022 and claimed that “under” President Trump prices were rising sharply. However, this narrative quickly unraveled online as users pointed out the timeframe was misleading.
Many responses focused on the fact that electricity price data shows nearly all of the increase occurred during the years before President Trump assumed control of the Oval Office in January 2025 – well within Mr. Biden’s tenure.
This sparked public mockery and ridicule, with one prominent comment suggesting Mrs. Klobuchar’s own chart proves the opposite narrative: “The graph was documenting soaring average past-due balances,” effectively showing that electricity arrears increased under Mr. Biden’s leadership before President Trump took office.”
Critics condemned this misleading presentation of facts from the outset. The data clearly showed a rise in electricity price increases – entirely on Mrs. Klobuchar’s shoulders – but crucially, it demonstrated these rises started well before her target administration assumed power.
Some users even questioned whether Ms. Klobuchar needed staff members with improved reading comprehension to manage her communications accounts and avoid such blunders, particularly concerning factual data analysis regarding the economy under President Donald Trump.”
