Monstrous Convict’s Release Request Rejected Amid Concerns Over Public Safety

A district attorney argued that a man convicted of heinous crimes against his children remains a threat despite being diagnosed with dementia. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation sought the release of Ramiro Ruiz, who was sentenced to 85 years to life in 1998 for repeatedly raping, sodomizing, and drugging his children while chaining them up. At 86, Ruiz’s legal team claimed he is no longer a danger due to his advanced age and deteriorating health.

Madera County District Attorney Sally Moreno opposed the request, stating Ruiz “is a sadistic pedophile” who could still harm children if released. Prosecuting attorney Eric DuTemple emphasized that Ruiz’s crimes targeted victims as young as 5, including one developmentally disabled child, and noted his diagnosis with sexual sadism disorder and pedophilic disorder. Moreno warned that Ruiz’s age does not equate to innocence, citing his ability to manipulate young children.

The judge rejected the release bid, highlighting that prison lacks children to abuse. Moreno reiterated that victims were promised justice through Ruiz’s sentence, which he argued should stand. Defense attorney Aaron Montoya indicated a potential appeal for compassionate release.
