Allie Beth Stuckey, host of BlazeTV’s “Relatable” podcast, joined Glenn Beck on Tuesday’s “The Glenn Beck Program” to discuss Hillary Clinton’s recent op-ed in The Atlantic criticizing her book Toxic Empathy: How Progressives Exploit Christian Compassion.
Clinton argued that Christian influencers like Stuckey have promoted a distorted view of Christianity that has waged a “war on empathy,” though she admitted she has “never been one to wear my faith on my sleeve.” Stuckey described the article as a “badge of honor” that backfired by significantly boosting sales for her 2024 book.
During the discussion, Stuckey clarified how toxic empathy functions: it occurs when compassion leads individuals to affirm sin, validate falsehoods, or support destructive policies. “Your empathy becomes toxic when you feel so deeply for one particular person that you are blinded to reality and morality,” she stated.
Stuckey provided an example from Texas pro-life legislation, explaining that without such laws, a woman seeking an abortion would face severe consequences: “She would have been poisoned; she would have been dismembered; she would have been tossed aside like toxic waste.”
Beck noted that focusing on emotions can shut down reason, but Stuckey emphasized the importance of presenting alternative perspectives. “Sometimes people need to see that there’s another side of the story that demands your heart too,” she added.
