Tucson Woman Abducted; FBI Unveils Suspect Details from Surveillance Footage

Nancy Guthrie, an 84-year-old mother of “Today” show co-host Savannah Guthrie, was abducted from her Tucson home in the middle of the night on February 1 and has remained missing since.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that investigators have identified the suspect’s clothing and face mask were purchased at Walmart, with efforts ongoing to determine specific brands. The FBI previously described the individual as a male with an average build measuring between 5 feet, 9 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches in height.

The suspect’s backpack—a black Ozark Trail Hiker model—was sold exclusively through Walmart. Law enforcement is still investigating whether these items were acquired online or at physical stores. Sheriff Nanos emphasized the backpack has become one of the most promising leads in the case after investigators spent several days reviewing surveillance footage from local Walmarts.

The FBI released video and images captured by a security camera at Guthrie’s front door on Tuesday, showing the suspect armed. In an official statement, FBI Director Kash Patel noted authorities worked to recover “any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible due to a variety of factors—including the removal of recording devices.” The video was recovered from residual data located in backend systems.
