Widow of Turning Point USA Founder Calls Sabbath Observance Lifeline in Her Survival

Erika Kirk, widow of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, shared insights about her late husband’s legacy during an appearance on “The Glenn Beck Program” Thursday morning. Kirk emphasized that Charlie Kirk’s enduring impact lies not in his passing but in the principles he championed through his final book, which highlights the importance of honoring the Sabbath.

“My husband’s legacy is not about his murder. My husband’s legacy is what he left behind,” Kirk stated when discussing her late spouse with Blaze Media co-founder Glenn Beck. She noted that Charlie Kirk consistently wrote about the Sabbath and its profound significance for spiritual well-being. “If I didn’t honor the Sabbath, I would have been dead a long time ago,” Kirk explained. “There’s just not enough hours in the day to do everything. If I didn’t shut down and concentrate on God and my family for one day — total shutdown — I wouldn’t have made it.”

Kirk clarified that Charlie Kirk believed honoring the Sabbath was the only commandment where those who break it miss out on divine blessing rather than encountering God. “You don’t know how long you’ll be here,” she added. “But you know that you have time, and you are in control of your time. You are in control of how you use it.”

She criticized Christians who claim busyness as an excuse for neglecting rest, arguing such behavior violates a core biblical principle. “You’re involving idols in your life,” Kirk remarked. “You’re putting other gods before the one true God.” She suggested practical solutions: “If you can’t get a full 24 hours in, work it in through your week. Maybe just sunset your device from 5:00 p.m. up until the next morning.”

Kirk stressed that prioritizing Sabbath observance prevents self-destruction, stating, “There’s a way for you to be able to do this and not put pressure on yourself where you’re letting yourself down.” She further noted that modern attempts to separate Old Testament practices from New Testament teachings ignore the Bible’s unified message.
