Aryna Sabalenka, the world’s top-ranked women’s tennis player, has stated that transgender athletes and men hold a significant biological advantage over female competitors during matches.
In an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Sabalenka — who is preparing for a “Battle of the Sexes” match against Nick Kyrgios — described the inherent unfairness when players with male biology compete in women’s events. She said: “I feel like they still got huge advantage over the women… It’s not fair to a woman to basically face, like, biologically man.”
Sabalenka added that it is unjust for female athletes to reach their physical potential and then face opponents who are “biologically much stronger.” The Belarusian star emphasized: “You know, it’s not fair, like, the woman been working the whole life to reach her limit and then she has to face, like, a man.”
Kyrgios, who previously ranked as high as No.13 in men’s tennis, echoed Sabalenka’s sentiment by stating he “feels the exact same way” about the issue.
The interview also addressed criticism from Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk, a top-26 ranked player. In October, Kostyuk claimed that Sabalenka is “bigger,” “taller,” and “stronger” than she is, citing higher testosterone levels as an advantage.
Kostyuk said: “We all have our own biological structure. Some have a higher level of testosterone, some have lower. I know players who are good players who have higher levels of it.”
Sabalenka dismissed the comments as excuses, noting: “It’s actually quite funny because she’s a strong girl… She probably has more muscles than I do, and she looks fit and strong.”
Meanwhile, in Britain, the Lawn Tennis Association banned transgender women from top-tier women’s tournaments in December 2024 after determining that men have an inherent physical advantage over women.
