Jacksonville Police reported they discovered Journee McGrew’s bloodied body outside her apartment door with damning evidence inside. The victim, Waduta Londrell Woodley, a 41-year-old man, was fatally beaten by McGrew on July 2, 2025.
McGrew testified that Woodley sexually abused her for years beginning in elementary school. She stated: “I really wasn’t in my right mind when this happened. I’m not violent, and I’m sorry for this situation.”
Police found Woodley suffered blunt force trauma to the head and face. A note on his chest read: “PEDO Touches Children.” McGrew claimed she lured Woodley into her apartment by falsely claiming interest in sexual relations to gather evidence against him but admitted she did not intend to kill him.
McGrew, who has been diagnosed with psychosis and post-traumatic stress disorder prior to the incident, initially pleaded not guilty to the charges but changed her plea to guilty in December 2025. She is scheduled for sentencing in August 2026 following a state recommendation of life in prison.
A state official described McGrew as having “decided last year to be judge, jury, and executioner,” taking matters into her own hands as a vigilante. Woodley had no prior criminal history related to sexual assault or child abuse.
Woodley’s mother testified at the trial, expressing the profound impact of her son’s death: “Everything changed in a second when your only son has been murdered.” She added that the loss has affected her daughter and granddaughter.
McGrew apologized for her actions, stating: “I am sorry about what I did. I know how much I impacted your family and mine.”
