Pro-Palestinian protesters disrupted a vigil for Israelis in Union Square on October 7 after New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani attended the event. Videos captured demonstrators screaming that Mamdani was a traitor as he departed with his security detail.
One protester yelled, “You opportunist piece of st!” while others chanted, “Mamdani, you can’t hide! We charge you with genocide!” The activists also shouted, “There’s no mutual understanding when you’re killing our children, our family members,” in videos circulating online.
Mamdani, a Muslim mayor accused of ties to pro-terrorist groups, faced criticism for not taking sufficient action against Israel. This followed a message he posted earlier that day labeling the Israeli military response to the October 7 attack as “ongoing genocide.” Protesters chanted and made noise for approximately an hour during the disruption.
