Pokémon Group Claims FBI Cyberattack Exposes Sensitive Data on 5,000 Agents

ShinyHunters, a collective of Pokémon enthusiasts, has alleged that they hacked an FBI website and gained access to sensitive personal information for nearly 5,000 agents and applicants. The group stated their approach focuses on “coercion,” not extortion, and left behind a public calling card demonstrating the breach.

According to messages circulated online by ShinyHunters, they hold highly sensitive data on almost all FBI agents and individuals who filed job applications with the bureau. The hackers identify themselves using a golden Poké Ball symbol, referencing the pursuit of rare Pokémon in video games. Their statement included a note reading: “Thank you for your attention to this matter,” followed by a display of system access that raised concerns about the extent of the compromise.
