Mexican National Arrested After Alleged Sexual Assault on Michigan’s Historic Mackinac Island

Mackinac Island, Michigan — A Mexican national has been arrested and remains in custody following an alleged sexual assault on the island earlier this month.

According to a police report, the incident occurred around 2:15 a.m. on September 16 when a man forced a woman to the ground and sexually assaulted her before fleeing on foot. The victim was taken to the Mackinac Island Medical Center for treatment.

The suspect, identified as Carlos Adrian Fernandez De Lara Jaimez, is a 30-year-old male from Mexico. He was arrested in St. Ignace and booked into Mackinac County Jail. In county records, he is listed as “Carlos Fernandez,” though court documents refer to him by the last name “Jaimez.”

Jaimez has been charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct with personal injury, a felony. He was arraigned on September 18 before Judge Beth Gibson, who set a $100,000 cash bond.

The suspect remains in custody as of Monday afternoon and is scheduled for a preliminary examination hearing next week. Jaimez’s attorney and the Department of Homeland Security have not responded to requests for comment.
