Man Crawls Through Ceiling at Vancouver Mall in Bizarre Police Incident

On September 30, Vancouver, Washington police responded to reports at the city’s Vancouver Mall that a male suspect was crawling through ceiling tiles. The suspect, identified as Gabriel Hideo, broke through multiple tiles and damaged lighting fixtures, wiring, and other structures while moving around the second floor.

Officers communicated with Hideo for more than an hour before placing a ladder in the ceiling and positioning a mattress on the ground. After stepping onto the ladder, Hideo repeatedly attempted to climb back into the ceiling, prompting officers to pull the ladder away. The suspect landed on the mattress but got up and tried to flee. Police took him into custody after he resisted being handcuffed, with audible growls in the bodycam footage.

A police bodycam recording of the incident features background music by the band A-ha and includes narration stating: “It was at this moment he knew he screwed up.”
