A digital sign at the New Hope Community Church in Palatine, Illinois, has drawn protests from LGBTQ+ activists after displaying messages critics claim undermine Pride Month celebrations.
The church’s pastor stated he is not backing down from his message following demonstrations by protesters who have demanded the removal of the signs. Among the displayed messages was: “Ditch Pride, embrace humility,” and another read: “We love you enough to tell you the truth.”
“That gives us the chance to share God’s truth. I wish they’d come every day so we can have conversations,” the pastor said.
Paul Dombrowski of the Northwest Suburban Pride Network described the church’s goal as “letting other residents of Palatine know what this church preaches and that Palatine is better than that.”
Chelsea Laliberte Barnes, a member of Liberal Moms of the Northwest Suburbs, added: “It is important to stand up for those in our community who are being marginalized and who are being ostracized clearly in this way.”
