On Tuesday afternoon, a Memphis resident described confronting an armed suspect following a break-in attempt at his GreenBrook Apartments residence.
The homeowner reported arriving home just before 3:15 p.m. and discovering a masked man attempting to steal television from a wall. Police reports indicated the suspect then turned toward him, reached into a bag, and pulled out a firearm.
The homeowner fired two shots, striking the suspect twice. After the initial exchange, the suspect fled westward toward GreenBrook Bend. The homeowner stated he continued firing two additional shots as the suspect ran, causing the suspect to fall, drop his bag, rise again, and escape on foot through the apartment complex.
Police conducted an extensive search and discovered a man injured in the 6400 block of Macon Road who was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Authorities also returned multiple items to the homeowner’s wife: a white PlayStation 5, pink and white Jordan 1 sneakers, black and pink Jordan 1 sneakers, all-black Nike Air Max 97 sneakers, white Air Force sneakers, a black Roku controller, and a purple PlayStation controller. The homeowner’s wife confirmed all items belonged to her spouse.
The homeowner added: “Good! More people need to fight back and make Memphis great again.” He also stated: “This is the direct result of what happens when the system to protect people fails completely. People take care of themselves. We’ve entered this phase.”
