Jonathan Cain, keyboardist of the band Journey, has publicly criticized Bruce Springsteen for consistently using his platform to push liberal politics during concerts.
In an interview on the “Complete Disaster Network” podcast from May that recently went viral on social media, Cain expressed frustration with Springsteen’s recent behavior.
“I mean, who cares, guys? Do your art. I try to keep politics out of my music,” Cain stated.
The musician, who previously identified as a Democrat in his youth but has since shifted to the right, accused Springsteen of becoming an “annoying, bitter old man” who fails to embody American identity.
“He’s an annoying, bitter old man. I mean, stop it. Really. You were born in the U.S.A., weren’t you, dude? So act like it,” Cain added.
Cain also targeted individuals known for criticizing President Donald Trump, including actor Robert De Niro and another figure he did not name.
“Him and … who’s the other one? Robert De Niro,” Cain said. “I mean, who cares, guys? Do your art.”
Cain is married to Paula White, a controversial prosperity gospel evangelist appointed by Trump to his White House Faith Office.
Cain recalled that Journey was among the first bands to resume touring after the coronavirus pandemic lockdowns, defying warnings from fans who claimed they would all die without performing.
“Everybody told us we were going to fail, and we were crazy — we’re all going to die, you know?” Cain said. “And we said, ‘Nonsense, it’s time to go back out and celebrate rock ‘n’ roll again,’ and we were right.”
